What do we do?

The Finger Lakes Bonsai Society works to provide a community of encouragement and enthusiasm for Bonsai artists, whether new or experienced, with or without trees.

This bonsai organization has monthly meetings designed to educate and support bonsai enthusiasts in a friendly, sharing setting. Activities at club meetings include presentations on a wide assortment of related topics, workshop activities creating bonsai, and discussion among members on topics including wiring, pruning, design, pest control, soil, fertilizer, pot choices and watering.

We seek to build basic skills for development of trees and understanding of the traditions in which this art is rooted, allowing people to obtain the tools they need to make their Bonsai visions come true.

What is this Bonsai we speak of? Bonsai is an ancient tradition, started in China, and refined in Japan. The word Bonsai literally means "Tree in Pot". The ideal is to create a miniature, ancient, noble tree that can be displayed inside your home, or outside, in a pot that accents the beauty of the tree. This is a great way to bring the beauty of nature home with you.

Sound interesting? Get connected! Join us at our monthly meeting and learn more!
